Box Score READING, Pa. - Highlighted by the game-winner from junior
Cash Stanton, the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team scored the game's final three goals en route to a 10-7 road win over Alvernia Wednesday night.
The Green Terror (5-3), winners in three of their last four and two-straight on the road, made the most of their opportunities, scoring on 10 of 18 shots on goal.
Stanton was one of seven different goal scorers for McDaniel, led by two each from junior
Carter Youtz, junior
Aidan Skelly, and first-year
Alex Salerni. Sophomore
Aaron Ewing led the defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior
Gabe Wallman had 12 saves, his sixth game out of eight this season with at least 10.
Alvernia (3-2) scored the game's first three goals before Youtz netted his first with just two seconds remaining in the first quarter. The goal jump started a 4-0 run by the visitors who led 4-3 with 7:28 left in the second on the second of back-to-back tallies by Skelly.
The Wolves scored with nine seconds to play and the game headed to halftime tied at 4-4.
The game featured three ties and three lead changes. The last tie came with 4:39 remaining in the third after Zackary Moats scored his third goal of the game and his second on the man-advantage.
However, that would be the last goal allowed by the Green Terror defense as Wallman stopped the final four shots on goal for Alvernia over the final 20 minutes.
Stanton scored the game-winner with 1:40 left in the third, his 11th goal of the season and first game-winner. Salerni followed with his team-leading 14th goal of the season with 12:30 to play in the fourth before first-year
Brandon Mejia capped the scoring with his second of the year with 6:32 remaining.
McDaniel wraps up non-conference play next Wednesday, March 18 when it heads to Virginia Beach to take on Virginia Wesleyan beginning at 4 p.m.
