THE SKINNY
After a tightly-contested start to the game, Montclair went on a 13-1 run for a 15-5 victory over McDaniel.
THE LEADERS
• Patrick Fegan (Edgewater, Md./South River) led the Green Terror with two goals.
• Brighton Lorber (Lutherville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) made 16 saves in goal. He also had two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
FOR THE FOES
• Christian Boyle led the Red Hawks with four goals and one assist.
• Joe Covino added three goals and two assists.
• David Metzger anchored the defense with 12 saves in cage.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Montclair scored first on a Matt Dancsecs goal from Joe Covino just 1:05 into the game before Patrick Fegan responded quickly for McDaniel putting it passed the goalie at the 12:22 mark. Matthew Holland scored off a pass from Tyler McCreery to put the Red Hawks back on top but not for long. Dom Calderoni (Glen Cove, N.Y./North Shore) and Nick DeLoriers (Abingdon, Md./John Carroll) scored two quick goals 92 seconds apart to put the Green Terror in front 3-2 with 9:05 to play. Montclair had three different players score in the final 4:38 of the quarter to open up a 5-3 edge.
• The Green Terror closed the gap to start the second period when Eric Manfredonia (Ramsey, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) found the back of the net at the 12:08 mark. The Red Hawks, though, connted on another three by three different players to take an 8-4 lead into halftime.
• Fueled by a two-minute unreleasable penalty just two minutes into the third quarter, Montclair took advantage with three man-up tallies. The Red Hawks tacked on three more in the second half of the quarter, including two by Covino to push the lead to 14-4.
• Mike McCreery finished a solo run just over three minutes into the final period before Fegan snapped a long scoring drought with 8:25 to play in the game.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Montclair finished with a 62-30 advantage in shots and won 15 of 23 faceoffs.
• Jason Heeley (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) scooped up five ground balls for the Green Terror.
