THE SKINNY
Franklin & Marshall, ranked ninth in the latest USILA Div. III coaches poll, outscored McDaniel 7-1 in the third quarter to open up a nine-goal lead en route to a 16-8 victory in the conference opener for both teams.
THE LEADERS
• Liam DeLorenzo (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) recorded a goal and two assists to lead the Green Terror.
• Dom Calderoni (Glen Cove, N.Y./North Shore) scored two goals on two shots and added a pair of ground balls.
• Patrick Fegan (Edgewater, Md./South River) tallied two goals and two ground balls.
FOR THE FOES
• A.J. Rigsby led the Diplomats with four goals and two assists.
• Will DeMuth also netted four goals.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Franklin & Marshall jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 4:07 on two A.J. Rigsby goals. Patrick Fegan got McDaniel on the board, finishing a solo run midway through the first quarter. Rigsby, however, continued his hot first quarter, finding Will Mollhan and finishing his hat trick with 4:06 remaining for a 4-1 lead.
• Zach Micklos (Washington, D.C./St. John's College) finished from Liam DeLorenzo with 8:51 showing before Dylan Vitale (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) scored a minute later to close to within 4-3. The Diplomats, however, got three straight goals from three different players before DeLorenzo connected with Fegan for a man-up goal with 2:36 to play to make it 7-4 at the break.
• Rigsby wasted no time out of the break, scoring just 11 seconds into the third quarter on a man-up opportunity that carried over from late in the second quarter to start a five-goal spurt before Dom Calderoni found the back of the net momentarily halt the run in a man-up situation with 7:33 to play. Blake Target and Will DeMuth scored the next two for the Diplomats to take a 14-5 lead into the final period.
• Franklin & Marshall stretched hte lead to 16-5 in the first 4:07 of the fourth quarter before Jason Fritz (Germantown, Md./Northwest) finished a solo run with 7:30 on the clock. With 3:06 remaining, Calderoni tallied his second goal of the day and DeLorenzo added to his pair of assists with a goal in the final minute.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Franklin & Marshall held a 52-28 advantage in shots.
• Brighton Lorber (Lutherville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) scooped up six ground balls for the Green Terror.
