Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington scored the game's first eight goals en route to a 16-8 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Joey Conklin (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led the Green Terror (6-5, 1-2 CC) with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers. Cole Ostendarp (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) added five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Casey Grieves paced the Shoremen (7-3, 2-1 CC) with six goals and four assists.
Grieves found Tyler Powers just 2:46 into the game before then hitting Cooper Sloan 25 seconds later. Just 54 seconds after that, Grieves and Powers connected again for a 3-0 lead.
Grieves then finished back-to-back solo runs to make it a 5-0 game with 6:28 to play in the opening quarter.
Tanner Barbieri and Grieves scored just seconds apart to stretch the lead to 7-0 after one before Kevin Trapp capped the opening run with 8:30 to play in the second quarter.
Carson Marshall (Brookeville, Md./Glenelg) broke up the shutout with 3:23 to play in the opening half before a pair of Grieves goals pushed the lead to 10-1 with 2:42 showing.
Marshall converted in a man-down situation to make it 10-2 at the break.
Washington stretched the lead to 14-2 before three-and-a-half minutes elapsed in the second half.
Back-to-back man-up tallies from Bryce Brookhart (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) and Sam Mutz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) closed the deficit to 14-4 after three quarters.
Micah Brooks (Woolford, Md./Cambridge South Dorcester) scored all three of his goals in the fourth quarter, including twice in the final 4:17.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Ursinus on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
