Marshall notches three assists

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Goucher had the final say in a back-and-forth affair, topping McDaniel 5-4 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Carson Marshall (Brookeville, Md./Glenelg) led the Green Terror (1-2) with three assists. Four different McDaniel players found the back of the net.

Derek Bitzer finished with two goals for the Gophers (2-2), including the game-winner with 1:43 to play.

Traling 4-3 after Jared Payne (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) ripped a shot from the top of the box with 9:36 to play in the fourth quarter, Zephan Harnish converted from Tucker Corrigan in transition to tie the game just 1 minute, 40 seconds later.

With the ball behind the net, Jaryd Hartzell swung the ball up to the left side of the cage where Bitzer faked and ripped a shot.

Nick Patterson made it 7-for-12 on faceoffs for Goucher on the ensuing draw and the Gophers were able to hold the ball and run out the clock for the win.

Matt Woodson finished a solo run for a 1-0 lead with 6:14 to play in the opening period.

Marshall found Micah Brooks (Woolford, Md./Cambridge South Dorchester) just a minute later to even the game.

Marshall then hit Jackson Reilly (Churchton, Md./Southern) on a man-up opportunity for a 2-1 lead with 10:37 to play in the second quarter.

Woodson drew the visitors even with 1:31 to play in the second quarter before Bitzer put Goucher in front 3-2 with 4:57 remaining in the third.

Bryce Brookhart (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) finished a third Marshall helper with 1:24 showing in the third to tie the game for the third time.

Jakob Katzen (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) made six saves for the Green Terror while Matt Messerle made eight stops for the Gophers. McDaniel finished with a 31-22 advantage in shots.
