Marshall tallies three and two

YORK, Pa. – York (Pa.) scored twice in the final 30 seconds of the first quarter to turn a one-goal deficit into a one-goal lead, defeating McDaniel 16-8 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Carson Marshall (Brookeville, Md./Glenelg) led the Green Terror (1-1) with three goals and two assists.

Thomas Pfeiffer had a hand in more than half of the goals for the fifth-ranked Spartans (3-0), contributing five goals and four assists.

After Pfeiffer and Bryce Brookhart (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) traded goals in the first six minutes, Hunter Davis gave York a 2-1 advantage just 13 seconds later.

Jackson Kratovil (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) and Marshall scored nearly four minutes apart to give McDaniel a 3-2 edge with 3:51 to play in the opening quarter.

Goals from Matt Whitcher and Pfeiffer, however, gave the Spartans the lead for good at the end of the first quarter.

Pfeiffer found Brendan McGrath with 4:24 showing in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 5-3 before Micah Brooks (Woolford, Md./Cambridge South Dorchester) converted a man-up opportunity with 2:06 showing to make it a one-goal game again.

Pfeiffer finished a solo run just 17 ticks later and Davis stretched the lead to 7-4 with a marker in the final 50 seconds of the half.

A Brookhart man-up tally just 66 seconds into the second half cut the deficit to 7-5 but York tallied six of the next seven goals to open up a 13-6 advantage with 10:58 to play in the fourth quarter.

Marshall finished his hat trick with 9:02 to play before three more Spartan goals pushed the lead to 16-7 with 2:42 on the clock.

Jackson Reilly (Churchton, Md./Southern) finished from Marshall for a third man-up goal just before time expired.

York finished with a 45-25 advantage in shots and won 17 of 26 faceoffs.

Jakob Katzen (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) made 21 saves in the first 53 minutes between the pipes. Joey Conklin (Westminster, Md./Westminster) added five ground balls, four caused turnovers and three assists.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Goucher on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
