McDaniel to battle for CC title

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will host Muhlenberg in the first-round match of the 2018 Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball championship on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.

The fourth-seeded Green Terror (19-7, 7-3 CC) faces the fifth-seeded Mules (20-7, 7-3 CC) with the winner advancing to Saturday's semifinals at Franklin & Marshall.

Top-seeded Franklin & Marshall (23-6, 10-0 CC) will host Wednesday's winner in the first semifinal to begin at 1 p.m. Second-seeded Johns Hopkins (1-7, 8-2 CC) will face third-seeded Swarthmore (14-9, 7-3 CC) in the day's other semifinal 60 minutes following the conclusion of the first semifinal.

The semifinal winners will advance to Sunday's championship match, which will be held at Franklin & Marshall at 1 p.m.

The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on Nov. 9. The NCAA field will be announced on Sunday night.

The Green Terror claimed conference crowns in 1994, 1999 and 2015. It is the seventh tournament appearance for McDaniel.

In the regular-season meeting between the Green Terror and Mules, McDaniel posted a 3-1 win in Allentown on Oct. 20.

Sophomore Marlowe Embry (San Jose, Calif./J.H. Pitman) led McDaniel during the regular season with 274 kills and was second on the team with 318 digs. She also added 34 aces and 21 total blocks.

Senior Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led the defense with 436 digs and 25 service aces.

Sophomore Emma Lorenzen (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) led the way with 68 total blocks to go with 178 kills and 21 aces.

Senior Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) was second on the team with 194 kills. She also had 38 blocks.

Sophomore Makayla Patterson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) rounded out a quartet with 100-plus kills at 103 to go with 50 total blocks.

Sophomore Gayle Edelstein (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) and junior Lauren Wells (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) contributed 438 and 359 assists, respectively, to the attack. Edelstein led the team with 43 aces.

Sophomore Kendall Hanak (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) contributed 225 digs and 34 aces.
