Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford took a 5-1 lead into halftime before defeating McDaniel 8-5 in the Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse opener for both teams on Saturday.
Zack Bicho (Millstone, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) led the Green Terror (5-4, 0-1 CC), going 14-for-15 on faceoffs with eight ground balls.
Dylan Stack made 17 saves in net for the Fords (5-3, 1-0 CC), who were outshot 34-29 by McDaniel in the contest.
Ben Frost finished a solo run to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead with 9:20 to play in the opening quarter.
Max Ellis stretched the lead to 2-0 after one quarter, scoring with just 62 ticks remaining.
Carson Marshall (Brookeville, Md./Glenelg) netted his 10th goal of the season 43 seconds into the second quarter to cut the deficit in half. Robert Breed (Medway, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) got his first assist of the season on the goal.
Haverford, however, reeled off three straight unassisted goals by three different players to take a 5-1 lead into the break.
Cooper Archambault (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and Marshall tallied 3 minutes, 23 seconds apart to trim the margin to 5-3 with 9:05 to play in the third period.
A Frost man-up tally with 5:33 to play stretched the lead back to three before Patrick Girard scored 40 seconds later.
Breed netted his first goal of the season with 2:51 to play in the third quarter before Girard and Troy Becker (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) traded goals in the final period.
Breed, a senior defenseman, added four ground balls to his goal and assists. Chase Hartman (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) added three ground balls and four caused turnovers.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
