Marshall records hat trick in home win

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored five of the game's first six goals to help capture a 9-7 victory over Birmingham-Southern in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Carson Marshall (Brookeville, Md./Glenelg) led the Green Terror (2-1) with three goals on the day and also added an assist.

McHale Schneider and Tanner Schneider paced the Panthers (1-3) with two goals each.

Cooper Archambault (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) opened the scoring, finding the back of the net just 40 seconds into the game.

Davis Thompson wasted no time responding, scoring directly off the ensuing faceoff to make it a 1-all game with 13:57 on the clock.

Marshall tallied his first of the day, finishing a solo run with 7:59 on the clock.

Archambault recorded his third straight multiple-goal game, finishing just 46 seconds later for a 3-1 lead.

Archambault then found Sam Mutz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) with 2:09 to play in the opening quarter and Marshall hit Chase Hartman (Wyomissing, Pa./Wymoissing Area) with 42 ticks for a 5-1 lead.

A post-goal penalty gave Birmingham-Southern a man-up opportunity and McHale Schneider was able to convert with just 18 seconds on the clock to make it a 5-2 game after one.

Marshall reestablished the four-goal lead off a pass from Archmbault with 9:46 to play in the second quarter.

Schneider trimmed the margin to 6-3 just three minutes before the defenses took over.

Troy Becker (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) broke up a 22-minute, 58-second scoring drought for the hosts to push the lead to 7-3.

After Quinn Lykens (Baltimore, Md./Towson) finished a Vasilios Sidou (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) pass from behind to push the lead to 8-4 with 12:39 remaining.

Tanner Schneider found the back of the net for the Panthers with 11:25 remaining, breaking a 25-minute, 19-second drought of their own.

After Carson Buckner and Marshall traded tallies, David Arnold closed the margin to 9-6 with 1:04 to play.

Another post-goal penalty gave Birmingham-Southern a man-up opportunity and Schneider converted in the final six seconds for the final margin.

Zach Bicho (Millstone, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) won eight of the 13 faceoffs he took and picked up three ground balls. Marshall added a team-best five ground balls to his hat trick.

Bryan Ruygrok (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) made 12 saves in net for the Green Terror while Matt Quill also had 12 stops at the other end.

McDaniel returns to action at Goucher on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
