Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall built an 8-5 lead through three quarters en route to a 9-8 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Zach Monzo (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) led the Green Terror (2-9, 0-4 CC) with two goals.
Sean Rogers tallied five times for the Diplomats (9-3, 3-1 CC), including all three second-half goals. He also added three assists to have a hand in all but one of the hosts' tallies.
Rogers hit Mike Rama just 2:31 into the game before Timothy McNichol (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) responded less than a minute later to even the score.
Rogers found Wes Rhudy with 7:37 on the clock before Robert Breed (Medway, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) netted his first collegiate goal, picking up a ground ball and scoring in transition with 5:35 to play in the first quarter.
Rogers and Michael Bossidy scored 1:44 apart to stretch the lead to 4-2 at the end of the period.
Jason Lawrence (Fallston, Md./Fallston) found Jared Payne (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) to trim the deficit to one again.
Rogers hit Mike Wasik then finished a feed from Harry Rice to make it a 6-3 game with 5:16 remaining in the opening half.
Harry Caufield (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Bergen Catholic) closed the deficit to 6-4 at the break.
Monzo finished a solo run just 58 seconds into the third quarter to make it a 6-5 game but back-to-back tallies from Rogers nearly 13 minutes apart pushed the lead back to three.
Michael Long (Hampstead, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) finished a Lawrence pass early in the fourth quarter before Rogers stretched the lead back to three with 7:24 remaining.
Lawrence finished a solo run with 5:26 on the clock and Monzo found the back of the net with 2:54 showing to make it a one-goal game.
McDaniel won the ensuing faceoff and – after a series of turnovers – had a chance to pick up another goal in transition but the shot was just wide of the net before the final horn.
Will Kroppe (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) led the defense with six caused turnovers and eight ground balls. Breed had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
McDaniel returns to action at Swarthmore on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
