Lykens scores twice

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Haverford scored three of the four goals after halftime to top McDaniel 6-5 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Quinn Lykens (Baltimore, Md./Towson) led the Green Terror (2-8, 0-3 CC) with a pair of goals.

Tav Hafner paced the Fords (5-5, 1-2 CC) with two goals of his own.

Trailing 4-3 at the intermission, Isaac Krier scored midway through the third quarter to even the game.

Hafner went low to finish a solo run for his second of the day with 4:47 on the clock and put Haverford back in front by one.

Lykens finished a Chase Hartman (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) feed with 1:43 showing to draw the game level for the fifth time.

Just 39 seconds later, Garret Trucksess fired from the right wing to give the visitors a one-goal advantage before the defenses and goalies took over in the fourth quarter. The two goals combined for 11 saves on 13 total shots while the defenses forced 11 turnovers.

Hafner staked Haverford to an early 1-0 lead, finishing a pass form Trucksess just 1:59 into the game.

Jason Lawrence (Fallston, Md./Fallston) evened the game in the final 11 seconds of the opening period, converting a feed from Patrick Huckenpoehler (Baltimore, Md./Towson).

Lykens gave McDaniel a 2-1 edge with 10:36 to play in the second quarter before Ben Frost finished a solo run 1:36 later.

Just 1:22 after that, Zach Monzo (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) scored unassisted for a 3-2 edge.

Chase Williams and Micahel Long (Hampstead, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) traded tallies 1 minute, 33 seconds apart to keep it a one-goal game going to the half.

Eric Caliendo made 19 saves for Haverford in goal while Eric Ritchie (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) had 11 stops at the other end.

Zach Bicho (Millstone, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) won six of the nine faceoffs he took for the Green Terror.

Robert Breed (Medway, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) led the defense with five ground balls and three caused tunovers.

McDaniel returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
