McNichol records three and one in win

Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. – McDaniel scored the game-winning goal with just 20 seconds remaining to defeat Marywood 8-7 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Timothy McNichol (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) led the Green Terror (1-3) with three goals and one assist, helping first-year head coach Keith Euker pick up his first victory as head coach.

Cody Bachman led the Pacers (0-3) with two goals and an assist.

After Marywood scored twice in a five-minute stretch to overcome a two-goal deficit, Sean Kalisak (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) forced a turnover and picked up the ground ball. The junior found Troy Becker (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) finished with just 20 seconds to play for the game-winner.

The Pacers won the ensuing faceoff but once again the defense came up big with an Alex Hanna (Odenton, Md./Arundel) caused turnover and ground ball to preserve the win.

McNichol opened the scoring, finishing unassisted with 3:19 to play in the first quarter.

Rob Maini drew the hosts even with 1:22 to play in the period but Jason Lawrence (Fallston, Md./Fallston) was able to pay off a man-up opportunity with 20 seconds to play for a 2-1 edge.

Back-to-back goals from Bachman and an Austin Maylor score gave Marywood a 4-2 lead with 6:08 to play in the second quarter.

McNichol hit Becker, who finished with 1:11 to play and Dylan Chaikin (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) scored unassisted with 28 ticks remaining to make it a tie game at the intermission.

Matt Castro and McNichol traded goals in third quarter before McNichol and Patrick Huckenpoehler (Baltimore, Md./Towson) scored 3:11 apart to give McDaniel a 7-5 lead with 10:59 to play.

A Maini man-up goal with 9:22 to play and a Castro finish from Scott Slater with 4:29 showing evened the game for the final time.

The Green Terror finished with a 47-22 advantage in shots but Pacer netminder Rick Blaine made 19 saves.

Hanna won went 6-for-9 on faceoffs with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Will Kroppe (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) led the defense with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.

McDaniel returns to action at home against SUNY Oneonta on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
