Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington outscored McDaniel 6-0 in the second quarter en route to a 13-6 victory in the Centennial Conference (CC) opener for both teams on Saturday.
Will Kroppe (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) led the Green Terror (2-6, 0-1 CC) with 11 ground balls and five caused turnovers on the afternoon. Timothy McNichol (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) led the attack with two goals.
Tanner Barbieri led the Shoremen (5-3, 1-0 CC) with six goals, including four during the decisive run.
Kevin Trapp staked Washington to a 1-0 lead midway through the first quarter before Quinn Lykens (Baltimore, Md./Towson) finished a pass from Jason Lawrence (Fallston, Md./Fallston) with 2:01 to play in the opening period.
Barbieri put home a Zachary Gorrasi pass to give the Shoremen the lead for good with 11:53 to play in the second quarter.
Gorrasi then found Brady O'Neill 43 seconds later for a 3-1 advantage.
Barbieri tallied twice in a 1-minute, 15-second stretch for a 5-1 lead with 9:25 showing.
A Gorrasi man-up tally with 3:12 remaining and a Barbieri even-strength goal with 31 ticks on the clock pushed the lead to 7-1 at the break.
Charles Walker stretched the run to 7-0 just 2:37 on the other side of halftime before Zach Monzo (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) snapped the run with 11:34 showing.
Four more Washington goals, including back-to-back Barbieri tallies, extended the lead to 12-2 with 14:01 to play in the final quarter.
A pair of solo runs by McNichol around a Kyle Savick (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) unassisted tally made it a 12-5 game with 2:15 to play.
Peter Jacobs and Michael Long (Hampstead, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) each scored in the final 1:22 to set the final margin.
Eric Ritchie (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) made 16 saves in goal.
McDaniel returns to action at Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
