Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Frostburg jumped out to a 5-1 lead en route to a 10-6 victory over McDaniel in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Timothy McNichol (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) led the Green Terror (2-5) with three goals.
Nick Stailey and Adam Gross paced the 15th-ranked Bobcats (11-0) with hat tricks of their own. Each also tacked on an assist to their three goals.
After Tate Rolland staked Frostburg to a 1-0 lead just 2:29 into the game, Tony Roney (Abington, Md./Patterson Mill) came up with a turnover and went the distance. He finished a give-and-go with Chase Hartman (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) for his career points with 11:07 to play in the opening quarter.
Stailey scored three times in the final 5:25 of the first quarter to open up a 4-1 advantage.
Gross finished a solo run 1:33 into the second period.
A Troy Becker (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) marker with 6:08 to play in the period closed the deficit to 5-2 but Spenser Love stretched the lead back to four just 1:33 later.
Zach Monzo (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) finished a solo run with 11:10 to play in the third quarter before Love responded to once again make it a four-goal game midway through the stanza.
Two tallies from McNichol – one with 6:30 to play in the third quarter and one 3:53 into the fourth – trimmed the margin to 7-5.
Three straight Bobcat goals, including two by Gross, secured the win before McNichol set the final margin with 2:30 remaining.
McDaniel returns to action for the Centennial Conference opener at home against Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
