Rickels scores four

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored seven straight goals to turn a 4-3 game into an 11-3 advantage en route to a 13-7 victory over Morrisville State in the semifinals of the 2012 ECAC Mid-Atlantic men's lacrosse championship tournament on Saturday.

DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) scored four goals to lead the top-seeded Green Terror (10-7), who advance to Sunday's championship against second-seeded Marywood. Marywood won the day's second semifinal 10-9, scoring with 1.8 seconds to play in regulation to defeat Misericordia.

Jack Martocello led the Mustangs (11-5) with two goals and an assist.

Behind a pair of goals from Rickels and the first two of JS Duke's (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) four assists, McDaniel jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the game's first 7:29.

Devin Maxwell finished a solo run with 4:13 on the clock to start a three-goal stretch that closed the deficit to one at the end of the first quarter.

Skippy Clary (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) tallied the lone goal of the second quarter, hitting the back of the net with eight seconds to play.

Rickels finished from Duke just 17 seconds into the third quarter before Michael Young (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) and Duke scored 53 seconds apart to stretch the lead to 7-3 with 8:59 to play in the third quarter.

Matt Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J./Immaculata) made it three goals in two minutes, scoring from Duke with 7:53 on the clock.

Sean Brett (Hamilton, N.J./Notre Dame) tallied his first career goal with 6:39 to play before Rickels capped the seven-goal run just nine seconds later.

Matt Fiore closed the gap to 11-4 at the end of the third but Pat Bivons (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and Jimmy Gibbons (Galesville, Md./Southern) pushed the lead to nine before 3:38 had elapsed in the final period.

Brad Motley (Fallston, Md./Fallston) made 15 saves in three quarters of play. Ryan Gillen (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) won 10 of the 17 faceoffs he took while adding four ground balls.

Game time on Sunday is 3 p.m.
