Rickels scores four in rally

YORK, Pa. – McDaniel rallied from an early 4-0 deficit for a 12-11 double overtime victory over York (Pa.) in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.

DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) led the Green Terror (3-2) to consecutive wins for the first time in the early part of the season with four goals, including the game-winner midway through the second extra session.

Tyler Hutson paced the Spartans (2-2) with five goals.

Trailing 4-0, McDaniel took a timeout with 4:22 to play in the first quarter. Out of the break, the Green Terror won the faceoff and Rickels scored on the ensuing possession to start the rally.

B.J. Blaker finished a man-up tally in the final 10 seconds of the period to reestablish the four-goal advantage before McDaniel reeled off nine of the game's next 12 goals.

With 2:31 elapsed in the second quarter, Matt Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J./Immaculata) finished a solo run for his first collegiate point. He finished the day with three points on two goals and an assist.

Nearly three minutes later, JS Duke (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) found Ben Yancheski (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) on the extra-man advantage to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Hutson pushed the lead back to three just 50 seconds later before Rickels and Jimmy Langton exchanged man-up tallies to make it a 7-4 game with 4:03 remaining in the first half.

A Duke-to-Yancheski connection and a Rickels-to-Duke hookup in the final minute closed the margin to one at the break.

Hutson started a third quarter of unassisted goals with 10:36 to play before McDaniel finished four straight solo runs.

Michael Young (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) converted with 8:00 to play in the quarter.

Duke hit the back of the net with 3:26 on the clock and Dupras scored with just six second showing to give McDaniel a one-goal advantage.

Michael Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) stretched the Green Terror's lead to two just 3:48 into the fourth quarter before two straight Hutson tallies evened the game once again.

A Rickels solo run put McDaniel back on top with 5:34 to play before Nick Bach forced overtime, scoring unassisted with 11 seconds on the clock.

The teams played through a scoreless first four-minute extra session before Rickels converted for the fourth time in the game with 2:06 showing in the second overtime.

York finished with a 46-32 advantage in shots while McDaniel held a slim 40-38 edge in ground balls.

Skippy Clary (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and Ryan Gillen (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) each won five faceoff for the Green Terror. Nelson Hannahs (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) finished with four caused turnovers while Nick Sicuranza (Sevens Valley, Pa./Dallastown) added three.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Eastern on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
