Duke scores three

Box Score

WESMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored three times in a 6-minute, 44-second span to key an 8-6 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over Eastern on Saturday.

JS Duke (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) led the Green Terror (4-2) with his first hat trick of the season, adding an assist to his three goals. Ben Yancheski (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) added three goals.

Will Johnson led the Eagles (2-2) with two goals.

After Eric Waibel evened the game off a Zac Ivy assist with 19.1 seconds left in the third quarter, Ryan Gillen (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) won the ensuing faceoff – his seventh straight win – to Ryan Hennessy (Corning, N.Y./Corning East), who corralled the ground ball and found Duke for the lead with 8.0 seconds showing.

Matt Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J./Immaculata) found DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) with 10:44 to play in the fourth quarter before hitting Yancheski 2:20 later for an 8-5 lead.

Johnson finished a solo run with 7:02 on the clock, setting the final margin.

A Duke unassisted tally just 1:19 into the game staked McDaniel to an early 1-0 lead before Michael Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) connected with Rickels midway through the first period for a 2-0 advantage.

Andrew Travers closed the deficit to 2-1, scoring within the next minute before Johnson tallied a man-up goal 26 seconds into the second quarter to knot the game.

Ronald Johnson gave Eastern its first lead with 8:32 on the clock before Duke and Yancheski connected with 3:05 remaining to make it a 3-all game at the break.

Woglom found Yancheski with 11:45 to play in the third quarter for a 4-3 lead before Kyle Gillam once again evened the score with 3:07 on the clock.

The first of two Hennessy-to-Duke goals on the move gave the Green Terror a momentary 5-4 edge with 1:45 showing.

Gillen finished the game 8-for-10 at the X. Nelson Hannahs (Baldwin, Md./Fallson) led the defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Hennessy added four ground balls and two caused turnovers to his first two collegiate points.

The Green Terror returns to action at No. 9 Lynchburg on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
