Box Score No. 3 Salisbury cruises to 14-2 victory over McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Erik Krum scored four goals to lead No. 3 Salisbury to a 14-2 victory over McDaniel in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Shawn Zordani added a hat trick for the Sea Gulls (4-0), who opened up a 12-0 lead through the first 34:37 of the game and held the Green Terror (0-2) to its lowest offensive output since 2000.
Ben Yancheski (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and Michael Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) tallied once each for McDaniel while JS Duke (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) handed out the team's lone assist.
Sam Bradman – Salisbury's leading scorer entering the game with 13 goals – opened the contest with an unassisted marker 49 seconds into the game.
Tony Mendes doubled the advantage just 2:25 later before Jeff McGuire rounded out a three-goal first quarter, tallying off a Matt Cannone feed with 6:52 showing.
Tyler Granelli, who went 9-for-10 on faceoffs, won the face to open the second quarter and hit Krum, who found the back of the net nine seconds into the period for a 4-0 lead.
Cannone, who had four assists on the day, tallied his only goal 13 seconds later before Bradman and Mendes stretched the lead to 7-0 with 6:54 remaining.
Zordani made it a 7-0 game at the break before Krum scored 30 seconds into the third quarter for an eight-goal advantage.
Zordani and back-to-back Krum markers pushed the lead to 12 before Yancheski fired home a shot off a pass from Duke to break up the shutout with 3:13 remaining in the third quarter.
Zordani and Evan Hammersly stretched the advantage to 14-1 before Woglom finished a solo run for the final margin with 2:28 to play.
As a team, Salisbury won 18 of 20 faceoffs and finished with a 44-18 advantage in shots and 36-20 edge in ground balls.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
