Box Score McDaniel cruises to 22-1 win over Thomas
BABSON PARK, Mass. – DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) recorded four goals to lead McDaniel to a 22-1 victory over Thomas in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Tuesday.
Ben Yancheski (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and Peter Guastella (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) added three goals apiece for the Green Terror (3-3), who built an 11-1 lead over the game's first 22:30.
Jeffrey Morse scored the lone goal for the Terriers (0-3), who were outshot 45-8 in the contest.
Yancheski staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead just 40 seconds into the game, finishing a feed from Nick DiBernardo (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall).
Rickels finished a pair of solo runs around a Daniel Alderman (Sykesville, Md./Century)-to-Zach Woods (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's) tally to make it a 4-0 game with 7:40 to play in the first quarter.
DiBernardo and Guestella scored 1:58 apart to account for a 6-0 first quarter.
Rickels, Michael Young (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) and Yancheski stretched the lead to 9-0 in the first 4:20 of the second period.
Morse broke up the shutout with a man-up goal at the 9:37 mark before Skippy Clary (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) made reestablished the nine-goal lead with an unassisted marker just over two minutes later.
Matt Dean (Glen Burnie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), who went a career-best 16-for-16 at the X, won the ensuing faceoff and found Warren Kraft (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Portledge School) eight seconds later for an 11-1 lead.
Michael Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) and Guastella tallied 46 seconds apart to make it a 13-1 game at the break.
A Yancheski man-up tally 14 seconds into the second half made it 14-1 before Andrew Mummert (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) scored the first of his two goals for a 15-1 lead with 12:57 showing in the period. Mummert added two assists on the day.
Jed Barnes (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) finished a Joe Browning (Baldwin, Md./Archbishop Curley) feed before Rickels and Pat Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) rounded out the five-goal quarter.
Guastella capped his first career hat trick 3:56 into the fourth period.
The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
