Mary Washington scores final four to pull away, down McDaniel

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Harry Snyder scored four goals and added an assist to lead Mary Washington to a 13-7 victory over McDaniel in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Three players scored three goals for the Green Terror (0-1) in the team's opener, including preseason All-American DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) and junior transfer Ben Yancheski (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney). Yancheski added an assist while Nick DiBernardo (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) rounded out the trio of three-goal scorers.

Kohl Meyer and Mark Bowler added three goals each for the Eagles (2-2), who tallied the final four goals of the game to turn a 9-7 advantage into a six-goal win.

Trailing 4-2 after one quarter, Meyer converted one of 10 Mary Washington man-up opportunities to spark five-goal run that gave the hosts a 7-4 lead with 3:01 to play in the period.

After Meyer finished from Luke Dick with 13:52 to play in the second, Snyder added a second man-up tally 1:08 later to knot the game at 4-all.

Chip Prittard gave the Eagles the lead for good 1 minute, 14 seconds later before Bowler and Snyder found the back of the net 1:04 apart for a three-goal lead. Snyder's tally came man-down off an assist from Meyer.

Rickels halted the run, finishing a solo run with 2:36 to play in the half before Meyer pushed the lead back to three at the break with 20 seconds on the clock.

Dick stretched the lead to four midway through the third before DiBernardo and Yancheski tallied fewer than two minutes apart to close the deficit to two with 3:19 to play in the period before Bowler sparked the four-goal flurry over the final 16:23.

Snyder tallied twice and Meyer once in the fourth.

Goals from Bowler and Evan Weiss staked Mary Washington to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 2:08.

DiBernardo made it a 2-1 game before Rickles tallied on the extra-man opportunity to tie the game with 10:41 showing.

Matt Dean (Glen Burnie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) went 12-for-18 on faceoff and grabbed four ground balls. Matt Mummert (Dillsburg, Md./Northern) picked up eight ground balls.

McDaniel finished with a 38-27 advantage in shots, including taking 16 shots in the fourth quarter but could not find the back of the net.
