Gettysburg downs McDaniel in semis

Five straight goals propel Bullets into 10th championship game

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Kyle McGrath and Danno Lynch each scored three goals to lead No. 2 Gettysburg to a 10-6 victory over McDaniel in the 2010 Centennial Conference (CC) semifinals on Friday.

The top-seeded Bullets (15-1) scored the first three goals of the game before the Green Terror (7-8) pulled within 3-2 only to see the hosts reel off five straight to take control of the game.

DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) netted three of McDaniel's six goals to finish the year with 42 tallies – the most by a Green Terror player since 2002.

On just the second shot of the game for Gettysburg, Lynch found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead 2:50 into the game.

Pat Satory stretched the lead to 2-0 with 5:34 left in the first quarter before McGrath made it a 3-0 game off a Chris Cahill feed with 12:28 showing in the second period.

Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) broke up the shutout 1:16 later before Rickels trimmed the deficit to one with 8:51 to play in the first half.

McGrath needed just 16 seconds to stretch the lead back to two before making it a three-goal game with 3:35 to play in the first half.

Lynch stretched the lead to 6-2 just 55 seconds into the third quarter before tallying at the 9:15 mark for a 7-2 advantage.

With a faceoff win – one of just seven on the day for the Bullets, Matt McMurray raced to the cage and scored for a six-goal advantage.

JS Duke (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) pulled the visitors with 8-3, toeing the crease to finish a feed from Preston with 7:41 on the third-quarter clock but Andrew Ryan re-established the six-goal lead with 5:25 showing.

A Rickels man-up tally closed out the third-quarter scoring before Rickels finished Preston's 206th career point just 37 seconds into the fourth quarter.

With 5:36 to play, William Clary (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) capped a three-goal rally that pulled the Green Terror within three but the Bullet defense held McDaniel off the scoreboard before Patrick Koehl stuck home a loose ball with 46 seconds on the clock.
