Green Terror seeks first men's lacrosse championship
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will travel to Gettysburg,
Pa., in search of its first Centennial Conference (CC) men's
lacrosse championship this weekend.
The fourth-seeded Green Terror (7-7, 4-4 CC) faces top-seeded
Gettysburg (14-1, 8-0 CC), ranked second in the latest USILA
Division III poll, in Friday's first semifinal at 1:30
p.m.
The day's second semifinal pits second-seeded Dickinson
(14-1, 7-1 CC), ranked fifth in the latest USILA Division III poll,
against third-seeded Haverford (9-5, 5-3 CC) at 4 p.m. or 45
minutes upon the conclusion of the first semifinal.
The championship game will be held at Gettysburg on Sunday at 12
p.m.
The tournament's champion will earn the CC's
automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to
begin on May 12. The NCAA field will be announced on at 10 p.m. on
May 9.
McDaniel is seeking its first CC championship in its sixth
tournament appearance. It is the Green Terror's second
straight appearance after a four-year absence from the conference
tournament.
In the regular-season meeting between McDaniel and Gettysburg,
the Bullets posted a 15-6 victory in Westminster on Apr. 7.
DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of
Baltimore) leads the team in scoring with 39 goals and 49
points. Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh)
ranks second on the team with 22 points and 46 points behind a
team-best 24 assists.
Ty Wittelsberger (Parkton, Md./Hereford) and
Brad Motley (Fallston, Md./Fallston) have split
time in goal. Wittelsberger has an 8.40 goals-against average and
.530 save percentage while Motley has a 9.40 goals-against average
and .506 save percentage.
