Green Terror downs Colorado College in western swing
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – DJ Rickels (Forest Hill,
Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) recorded two goals and
an assist to lead McDaniel to a 10-9 win at Colorado College in
non-conference men's lacrosse action on Tuesday.
William Clary (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and
Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) added two
goals apiece for the Green Terror (3-3), who staved off a late
rally by the Tigers (2-1) to even its record entering conference
play.
James Mauk paced the hosts with four goals.
Even at 3-all at the break, Jed Barnes (Severna Park,
Md./Severna Park) and Clary finished solo runs in the
first 3:39 of the third quarter to give McDaniel the lead for good.
Carson Christman pulled Colorado College within
one with an unassisted marker with 7:48 to play in the period
before Preston finished a Nick DiBernardo (Towson,
Md./Calvert Hall) feed with 1:26 showing to push the lead
back to two.
With just 12 seconds elapsed in the final period, Rickels made
it 7-4.
The teams traded goals over the next nearly eight minutes before
a Christman man-up tally made it 9-7 with 2:44 to play.
Moses Taylor pulled the Tigers within one just
16 seconds later before Rickels stretched the lead back to two a
minute later.
Mauk tallied with 55 seconds showing to make it a one-goal game
but McDaniel held on for its second straight win.
After nearly 13 minutes with no scoring, Preston got the Green
Terror on the scoreboard with 2:05 to play in the first quarter.
Toby Cohen evened the game 28 seconds later off
the first of three Christman assists.
DiBernarndo and Mauk traded tallied 19 seconds apart early in
the second before Clary and Mauk traded goals to keep it even at
the break.
Matt Dean (Glen Burnie, Md./St. Vincent
Pallotti) picked up four ground balls and won 11 of 22
faceoffs.
The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference
opener at Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
