WESTMINSTER, Md. – Myles Monaghan scored
exactly midway through the first overtime to lift No. 9 Haverford
over McDaniel 13-12 on Saturday and to the top spot in the upcoming
Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse tournament.
The Fords (11-2, 7-0 CC) watched the Green Terror (9-5, 3-4 CC)
reel off the final five goals of regulation to even the game at
12-all before converting on their first attempt of the extra
session.
Mike Hatton (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) led the
Hosts with five goals, including bookending the late
rally.
Trailing 12-7 on the fourth of Brian
Fleishhacker's four goals with 6:18 to play, Hatton
found the back of the net with 5:21 on the clock to start the
rally.
A DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of
Maryland) man-up goal from Bill Warner (Yardley,
Pa./LaSalle) with 4:14 to play closed the deficit to
12-9.
With 1:33 showing, Matthew Daley (Wilmington, Del./A.I.
Dupont) finished a Deane Mellor (Chadds Ford,
Pa./Wilminton Friends School) before Preston found Daley
22 seconds later to close the deficit to one.
Off a restart from the endline with 9.8 seconds on the clock,
Preston found Hatton, who fired a low shot into the back of the net
with 3.5 seconds showing to send the Green Terror to its fifth
overtime of the season.
Warner and Evan Young (Easton, Md./Broadneck)
staked McDaniel to a 2-0 lead with 5:16 to play in the first
quarter.

Hjelm 20 seconds apart evened the game with 3:22 showing
in the period.
Preston finished a Daley feed with 2:01 showing in the first period
before Haverford reeled off four straight to take a 6-3 lead with
10:48 to play in the second quarter.
Hjelm capped the burst with two goals.
Back-to-back goals from Hatton trimmed the deficit to 6-5 at the
intermission.
The Fords tallied six of the game's next eight goals to take
their five-goal lead.
McDaniel concludes the regular season at Dickinson on Friday. Game
time is 7 p.m.
