WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gibbs Preston (Baltimore,
Md./McDonogh) scored three goals and added five assists to
lead McDaniel to a 13-5 victory over Ursinus in Centennial
Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Mike Hatton (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) added a
hat trick of his own for the Green Terror (6-2, 1-1 CC), who built
a 6-1 lead through the first 27:27 of the game.
Pat Gillen scored twice for the Bears (3-5, 1-2
CC), who scored three times as a team in a 5-minute, 31-second span
to close to within 10-5.
Two Preston assists – one to DJ Rickels (Forest Hill,
Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) and one to
Nicholas DiBernardo (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall)
– staked McDaniel to a 2-0 lead with 6:22 to play in the
first quarter.
Dan Monzo sliced the deficit in half at the 6:08
mark before the Green Terror reeled off four straight
goals.
Preston had a goal and two assists during the stretch while
Bill Warner (Yardley, Pa./LaSalle) contributed a
goal and an assist.
Gillen closed the deficit to 6-2 with 29 seconds remaining in the
first half before McDaniel put together a 4-0 third quarter to open
a 10-2 lead entering the final period.
Hatton had two goals in the quarter while Deane Mellor
(Chadds Ford, Pa./Wilminton Friends School) added a goal
and an assist.

Orlando pulled the visitors within five but two Preston
goals 2:59 apart bookended a 3-0 burst to close the
game.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Whittier on Wednesday.
