WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel College softball sophomore Cameron Kelly was selected to represent Ireland at the U22 Women's European Softball Championship in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from July 20-26.

Kelly, who is eligible to play for Ireland because her grandfather was born there, will represent Ireland on the international stage as the team continues its preparations for the Olympic qualifiers in 2027.

Softball will officially return to the Olympic Games in 2028 with the six-team tournament being played at Devon Park in Oklahoma City July 23-29, 2028.

Ireland is consistently ranked as a top-10 European nation and holds the No. 17 spot globally.

Kelly has played for the Ireland national team in three prior events. In the summer of 2022, she made Ireland's Under 22 team as a first baseman and pitcher. She played in six games while making three starts at first base and earned a save at the U22 European Softball Championship as the team placed seventh and posted a win over the Czech Republic who finished second.

In 2023, Kelly helped Ireland secure a bronze medal at the U18 European Championship, starting 11 games and hitting .478 with 13 hits, 11 RBIs, a .778 slugging percentage and a .548 on-base percentage. She also made four appearances as a pitcher while making three starts.

At the The World Baseball Softball Confederation U18 Women's Softball World Cup in 2024, Kelly played in five games while making four starts and hitting .417 with five hits and two RBIs.

Kelly was named to the All-Centennial Conference First Team this spring, finishing second in the conference with a .429 batting average and fourth with a .614 slugging percentage. She ranked second on team with 22 RBIs. Inside the circle, she compiled a team-best eight wins in 14 starts, totaling 73.0 innings and six complete games while striking out 26.
