Four Softball Players Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. - The McDaniel College softball team had four players named to the Academic All-District® Softball Team selected by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.

Senior Ryan Smith, junior Amy Anderson, junior Caitlin Boden, and sophomore Ally McBride each earned their first career Academic All-District® honor.

The Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must meet the following criteria:
  • Must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
  • Must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
  • Must compete in 90 percent of the team's games OR must start in at least 66 percent. Pitchers must have at least 17 appearances OR pitched 35 innings.
Smith graduated on Saturday with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Psychology an a 3.763 GPA. An All-Centennial Conference Second Team selection, she led the team with a .402 batting average, a mark that ranked seventh in the conference. She also led the team in games played (34), hits (46), runs (30), and total bases (54).

Anderson is a  major with a minor in business administration and a 3.738 GPA. She appeared in 16 games this season, including 15 as a pitcher totaling 36.0 innings. She totaled 14 strikeouts and pitched a complete game at Mary Washington on February 25.

Boden is a Health Sciences major with a minor in Kinesiology and a 3.620 GPA. A member of the honors program, she finished second on the team with a .388 batting average in 33 games played after returning from injury last season. She led the team with nine doubles, 27 RBIs, and 54 total bases. She was second with 40 hits and fifth with 17 runs.

McBride is a Communication major with a 3.612 GPA. She finished third on the team with a .378 batting average and 31 hits while ranking second with 22 RBIs, 23 runs, and 10 walks. She also made nine appearances inside the circle, leading the team with 43 strikeouts and a 3.88 ERA. She was second with 48.2 innings pitched.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Tuesday, June 16.
