Softball Swept in Road Doubleheader with Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The McDaniel College baseball team dropped both games of a conference doubleheader with Muhlenberg on Saturday.

Junior Caitlin Boden had two hits for the Green Terror (12-19, 4-8) in an opening loss to the Mules (28-8, 9-3).

Game 1: Muhlenberg 6, McDaniel 0

The opener remained scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when the Mules scored on a wild pitch to lead 1-0. The Green Terror put two runners on base as first-year Gianna Apostolakos led off with a single and first-year Erin Thayer reached on an error, but both runners were left stranded. An RBI-single in the bottom of the third gave the Mules a 2-0 lead.

Muhlenberg tacked on two more runs in the fourth to move ahead 4-0 and concluded the scoring in the sixth on a two-run triple.

Boden finished the opener with two hits in three at-bats while sophomore Ally McBride and Apostolakos also collected base hits.

Sophomore Cameron Kelly took the loss in the circle, pitching 5.2 innings and totaling two strikeouts, three walks, six earned runs and nine hits on 73 pitches.

Game 2: Muhlenberg 10, McDaniel 0

Senior Ryan Smith led off game two with a walk, advancing to second on a passed ball before being stranded there to end the top of the first inning. Another passed ball resulted in the game's first run for Muhlenberg in the bottom of the first following a leadoff triple.

A two-run single in the second increased the Muhlenberg lead to 3-0, and two more runs in the third made the score 5-0. The Mules plated five runs in the fourth inning to secure a run-rule victory for the sweep.

Smith was the lone Green Terror player to reach base in game two, drawing a walk in the first inning. Senior Morgan Rogers took the loss, tossing three innings while allowing three walks and six earned runs on five hits and 51 pitches.

The Green Terror return to the Softball Park on Tuesday in a home conference doubleheader with Gettysburg. First pitch is set for 3 pm.
