EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - McDaniel College women's wrestling freshman
Taylor Mead became the first regional place winner in program history with a fifth-place finish at the NCWWC Region II Championships on Sunday.
The tournament marked the end of the inaugural season for the Green Terror (1-6) who hosted their first home match, earned their first win, had their first tournament place winner and their first regional place winner.
Mead totaled three wins with a 3-2 record, finishing one win shy of earning a spot at the NCWWC National Championships in Coralville, Iowa. The top four wrestlers from each weight class in each of the eight regions qualify for the national championships.
After falling to Delaware Valley's Olivia Kinder who is ranked fifth in Region 2, Mead posted a 15-4 tech fall over second ranked Angelina Hiller of East Stroudsburg and a fall in just 37 seconds against Paisley Fox of Ursinus.
Mead fell to fourth-ranked Kylie Monroe of York (PA) in the consolation semifinals as Monroe secured the fourth and final spot at 145 pounds from Region 2 for the national championships. Mead secured fifth place with a fall over Rebekah Patzke of York (PA) in 1:17.
