YORK, Pa. - Freshman
Taylor Mead posted two wins at 145 pounds en route to a second-place finish as the McDaniel College women's wrestling team finished 10th at the New Standard Invitational hosted by York College of Pennsylvania Saturday.
The Green Terror, who finished 10th out of 14 team with six points, had two place winners as sophomore
Maria Samuel finished sixth at 160 pounds.
Mead began her day with a win by technical superiority over Rebecca Kilday of Western New England, 13-2, before posting an 8-0 decision against Mount Union's Karlie Stith. Mead fell by fall to Noelle Alexander
of Western New England in the 145-pound championship match.
Mead's second-place showing was the best finish in program history, surpassing her third-place showing at the Millersville Open on Nov. 17.
Samuel posted a 2-2 record at 160 pounds. She fell to Charlemarie Jackson of Western New England by fall in the opening round before rebounding with a fall against New Jersey City University's Citlaly Condado and win by technical superiority over Kaylyn Adair of York (PA).
Samuel fell to Albion's Brynn Green by fall and then finished sixth after an injury default to Ida Pelle of The Apprentice School in the fifth-place match.
Mead and Samuel were the lone winners for McDaniel who had competitors in eight of the 10 weight classes.
The Green Terror return to action on Sunday, Dec. 15 when they host Felician in the final home match of their inaugural season beginning at 1 p.m.
