Six First-Place Finishers Lead Men's Track at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. - Highlighted by six first-place finishes, the McDaniel College men's track & field team finished first at the Kaye & JJ Smith Invitational hosted by Shenandoah University on Sunday.

Junior Tyren Proctor broke his own program record in the 60-meter hurdles as he finished first with a time of 8.42 seconds. He also came in 10th in the 60-meter dash.

Junior Chett Brunner also finished first in the shot put with a distance of 14.92 meters, a mark that is the third-best in program history. It also currently ranks 26th in Division III this season. Usually, the top 18 performers qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in March.

Senior Nick Razze won the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.84 seconds and finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.90 seconds. Both marks with qualify him for the 2023 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Freshman Jack Sears came in first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:04.25 which is the seventh-fastest time in program history and qualifies him for the conference meet as well.

Sears was also a member of the 4x800-meter relay team along with junior Tyler Richardson, freshman Jack Reiser and junior Nick Raumann that finished first with a time of 8:22.73. Individually, Reiser finished ninth in the 400-meter dash in 54.75 seconds to qualify for the conference championships while Raumann was 10th in the 3,000.

Meanwhile, the 4x400-meter relay team of Reiser, Razze, junior Alex Huffer, and senior Anthony Razze crossed the line first with a time of 3:34.80.

The Green Terror also had three runner-up finishes as junior John Geniti placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.85m, sophomore Oral-Anthony Coleman placed second in the long jump at 6.31m and Sebby Breton finished second in the 3,000 in a time of 9:05.56.

Coleman's mark is the seventh-best in program history and qualified for the conference championships as did Breton who posted the eighth-fastest time in school history.

Coleman also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 23.21 seconds and fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.12 seconds.

Junior Alex Huffer came in third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.64 seconds. He also placed ninth and qualified for the 2023 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 24.10 seconds in the 200.

Also of note, junior Jake Conklin posted a mark of 9.87 in the weight throw which is the ninth-best in program history and qualified him for the conference meet. Freshman Christian Homer qualified for the conference championships by finishing fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.52m while senior Evan Lowengrub finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 1:29.67.

Junior Kyle Hubbard posted two top-10 finishes in the 60-meter hurdles (seventh) and the high jump (eighth). He also ran a time of 7.53 seconds in the 60-meter dash to qualify for the conference championships.

McDaniel returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Coach I Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall.
