THE SKINNY
McDaniel followed up a 7-4 game-one victory with an eight-run top of the first to key a run-rule victory in game two, topping Dickinson 9-1 in six innings.
THE LEADERS
• Isabella Sylvester (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) led the Green Terror with four hits on the day, including a three-hit opener.
• Parker Murphy (Onancock, Va./Nandua) pitched four innings of scoreless relief for the win in game two.
FOR THE FOES
• Paige Hahn led the Red Devils with a 3-for-4 game one.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one, Isabella Sylvester poked a one-out single to center before Megan Horsey (Chesapeake City, Md./Bohemia Manor) followed with the same. After a wild pitch put the runners at second and third, Makayla Calamita (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area) roped a two-out double to center for a 2-0 lead.
• With two outs in the fifth, Sylvester singled and took second on an error before Horsey walked. Evie Craig (Valby, Denmark/International School of Hellerup) singled to score both runners and double the lead.
• Lindsay Kucker started the home sixth with a single before Paige Hahn doubled. Brooke Espenshade followed with a two-run single before a sacrifice and Emma Glosson single made it a 4-3 game.
• Mattie Whalen (Magnolia, N.J./Sterling) was hit by a pitch to start the seventh before Sylvester singled. After a double steal, Horsey walked to load the bases. A Craig sacrifice fly and two-run Calamita double stretched the lead to 7-3.
• Dickinson had three straight singles to start the bottom of the seventh, cutting the deficit to 7-4 but Krista Waller (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) shut door after that, retiring the next three for her first save of the year.
• In game two, the first nine batters reached base for McDaniel. Sylvester started the game with a single before a Whalen infield single and Horsey walk loaded the bases. Craig singled to score Sylvester. Calamita and Kylie Sears (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) each did the same, scoring Whalen and Horsey, respectively, before a Paytyn Hazelton (Port. St. Lucie, Fla./Seminole Ridge) walk forced in Craig for a 4-0 lead. Julia Dimmick (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) singled to score Calamita before Angelina Tyler's (Columbia, Md./Howard) single brought home Sears. A Sylvester sacrifice fly scored Hazelton before a walk to Whalen reloaded the bases. A Craig two-out single plated Dimmick for the final of the eight runs.
• Three straight singles to start the third and a bases-loaded walk to Seburn made it an 8-1 game.
• In the top of the sixth, Calamita drew a walk to open the inning before giving way to pinch-runner Hannah Raygor (Frederick, Md./Seneca Valley), who moved to second on a sacrifice. Walks to Hazelton, Tyler, and Sylvester made it 9-1 and put the Green Terror in position for the run-rule win. Parker Murphy worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the inning to end the game early.
