THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel scored the final three runs of game two to earn a split at Muhlenberg. The Mules captured the opener 2-0 before the Green Terror took game two, 5-4.
THE LEADERS
• Michaela Persinger (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) led the Green Terror with a hit and three runs scored in game two.
• Paytyn Hazelton (West Palm Beach, Fla./Seminole Ridge) had two of McDaniel's five game-one hits.
• Shannon Musolf (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) picked up the win in relief, fanning three.
FOR THE FOES
• Sarah Karmazyn led the Mules with three hits, including the only multiple-hit game of the day with two knocks in the nightcap.
• Cora Bridgers went the distance in the opener with seven strikeouts.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In the opener, Kristin Oberg led off the third with a double before scoring on a Sarah Karmazyn single up the middle for a 1-0 lead.
• A Lauren Griggs double led off the sixth inning before Jane Banahan took over as a pinch runner and scored on a Genna Cicchetti single up the middle.
• In game two, Michaela Persinger led of the game with an infield single. After a fielding error and Evie Craig (Valby, Denmark/International School of Hellerup) single loaded the bases, Paytyn Hazelton and Makayla Calamita (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area) each singled to stake McDaniel to a 2-0 lead.
• A one-out Sophie Chong double and two-out fielding error cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second.
• Karmazyn and Cicchetti each singled to put two runners on with one out in the third. After a walk loaded the bases, Elise Enslin singled through the right side to plate two and give the hosts a 3-2 edge. A Cora Bridgers two-out base hit stretched the lead to 4-2.
• Madison Froemel (Suffolk, Va./Kings Fork) led off the fourth with a single before being erased on a fielder's choice. After Persinger was hit by a pitch, Megan Horsey (Elkton, Md./Bohemia Manor) singled home Julia Dimmick (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) to cut the deficit to one. A Mattie Whalen (Magnolia, N.J./Sterling) single loaded the bases before Craig drew a walk to even the game at 4-all.
• Persinger reached on a leadoff walk in the sixth before a deep flyout to right allowed her to move to second and a fielding error allowed her to score with the go-ahead run.
THE INSIDE STORY
• The pitching victory for Shannon Musolf was her first collegiate win in the circle.
• Mel Grant (Middletown, Del./Padua Academy) threw a complete game in the opener with four strikeouts and no walks.
