THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel pounded out 13 hits in the second game to salvage a split at Washington (Md.). The Green Terror dropped its conference opener 7-3 in game one before recording a 5-4 win in game two.
THE LEADERS
• Megan Horsey (Elkton, Md./Bohemia Manor) led McDaniel with four hits in the doubleheader, rapping out two hits in each contest. She also had two RBIs and a run scored.
FOR THE FOES
• Grace Moery led the Shorewomen with three hits on the afternoon.
• Megan Robbins went 3-for-3 with a home run in game two.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Michaela Persinger (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) drew a two-out walk in the top of the first in game one before stealing both second and third and scoring on a Mattie Whalen (Magnolia, N.J./Sterling) infield single.
• An Alyssa Vieira single, Hannah Solge walk, and Lexi Barnhart bunt single coupled with a throwing error tied the game after just three batters in the bottom of the inning. Grace Moery broke the game open with a three-run home run to center field for a 5-1 advantage with just one out.
• Myannah Robinson (Cocoa, Fla./Cocoa) and Meg Cappadora (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) each singled to lead off the visitor second before a two-out, two-run single by Megan Horsey closed the deficit to 5-3.
• The Shorewomen tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the fourth with the aid of three McDaniel errors.
• After working out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the top of the first in game two, Vieira drew a walk to lead off the home half of the frame. A sacrifice bunt, groundout and Megan Robbins single up the middle staked Washington to a 1-0 lead.
• Singles from Moery and Amelia Mazza led off the second before a Julia Hallman RBI groundout made it a 2-0 game.
• Persinger led off the top of the third with an infield hit before Horsey was hit by a pitch and Evie Craig (Valby, Denmark/International School of Hellerup) poked a single through the left side to load the bases. Robinson followed with an infield knock to make it a 2-1 game before Colleen Camburn (Waretown, N.J./Southern Regional) drove a ball back up the middle to plate Horsey and Craig for a 3-2 edge.
• Persinger singled to lead off the fourth as well before a Horsey single and wild pitch put runners at second and third with one out. A walk loaded the bases for Robinson, whose sacrifice fly to left stretched the lead to 4-2.
• Moery led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to cut the deficit to one once again.
• A one-out Craig single just inside the third-base bag and Robinson double to deep right put runners at second and third with one out in the sixth. Camburn followed with her second knock of the game – an infield single – to plate pinch-runner Justeen Cooley (Keymar, Md./Walkersville) for a 5-3 lead. Lexi Barnhart, however, got back-to-back strikeouts to leave the bases loaded.
• A two-out Robbins home run in the bottom of the seventh made it a one-run game again but Robinson got a groundout to secure the win.
