Christopher Newport, ranked second in the latest NFCA Div. III coaches' poll, scored five times in the bottom of the first to key an 11-0 run-rule win over McDaniel.
THE LEADERS
• Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the Green Terror.
• Emily Kain (Sykesville, Md./Century) added a hit and walk.
• Kylie Sears (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) also had a hit.
FOR THE FOES
• Patty Maye O'Hanian went 2-for-2 with two runs and four RBIs to lead the Captains.
• Eight hitters in the Christopher Newport lineup had a hit and the top four in the order had two knocks.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• With two outs in the bottom of the first, Patty Maye O'Hanian went deep to left field for a 1-0 lead. After a walk and hit batter, Grace Wild singled to make it 2-0 and a Sarah Proctor infield knock loaded the bases. Natalie Carmichael cleared the bags with a single to left for a 5-0 lead.
• Maddie Hood led off the second with a single before a Caitlin Abernethy double and O'Hanian sacrifice fly made it a 6-0 game.
• Four straight two-out singles and a Bailey Roberts two-run double down the line accounted for a four-run third that set the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Kylie Sears rapped out a double with two outs in the third inning for her first collegiate hit.
• Christopher Newport outhit McDaniel 12-3 on the afternoon.
