Hishon has two hits, game-winning RBI in game two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn a split with Stevenson in non-conference softball action on Sunday.

The Mustangs (14-16) took game one 4-2 before the Green Terror (19-16-1) won the nightcap 3-2 in eight innings.

Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led McDaniel with two hits and the game-winning sacrifice fly in game two.

Erin Stephey led Stevenson with four hits on the afternoon.

Tied at 2-all heading to the eighth inning, the Mustangs successfully bunted the runner to third base before Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) got a groundball and a popup right behind home plate to strand the tie-breaking run 60 feet away.

With Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) standing at second in the bottom of the frame, Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) bunted her to third before Hishon lofted a 3-2 pitch down the right-field line deep enough to score Scardina with the Green Terror's fifth straight extra-inning victory.

McDaniel struck first in game two. Coyle singled back up the middle with one out in the bottom of the first before Hishon laced a single into the right-center gap but Coyle was ruled out sliding into third on a controversial play for the second out.

Tori Wilkins (Lutz, Fla./Land O'Lakes) followed with a single that bounced into the outfield to score Hishon but Wilkins was thrown out at second on the relay back to keep it a 1-0 game.

Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) doubled with one out in the fourth before giving way to pinch-runner Madisyn Johnson (Glen Rock, Pa./Dallastown Area), who tagged and took third on flyout at the fence.

A throwing error that pulled the first baseman off the bag allowed Johnson to score and make it a 2-0 game.

With one out in the top of the fifth, Stephey and Tiffany McKee sent back-to-back home runs out to left field to tie the game.

Coyle went 3-for-3 in game two while Wagner matched Hishon with two hits. Johnson threw 3 2/3 innings of relief with two strikeouts for the win.

In game one, Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) drew a two-out walk in the third before Wilkins blasted an offspeed pitch out left field for a 2-0 lead.

The next half-inning, Brooke Steinbach led off with a single before being erased on a fielder's choice. Kate Finnen followed with a two-run home run to tie the game.

Jasmyn Ogletree singled to lead off the sixth then gave way to a pinch runner. After a sacrifice bunt, a fielding error allowed Gina D'Andrea to score the go-ahead run.

Kayla Briles led off the seventh with a bunt single up the third-base line before stealing second, taking third on a flyout and scoring on a groundout for the final margin.

Wilkins had a pair of hits in the opener.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Messiah on Wednesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
