Box Score 2 LANCASTER, Pa. – McDaniel staved off Franklin & Marshall to take game one before completing the Centennial Conference (CC) opening sweep in softball action on Thursday.
The Green Terror (8-10, 2-0 CC) won the opener 10-8 behind a 17-hit attack before getting a complete-game, four-hit shutout from Cassie Rickrode (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) in a 5-0 game-two win.
Tori Wilkins (Lutz, Fla./Land O'Lakes) led the offense for McDaniel with five hits on the day, including a three-run home run in the nightcap.
Ryan Correa led the Diplomats (5-9, 0-2 CC) with two hits in each game.
Tied at 7-all in game one, Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led off the sixth inning with a double to center before scoring on a Wilkins single. Wilkins then stole second before a pair of groundouts to right side stretched the lead to 9-7.
The Green Terror worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the inning before Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) led off the seventh with a single.
After a sacrifice moved her second, Hishon came through with a two-out RBI single just over the shortstop's head to plate Michael for a 10-7 lead.
Christine Miles drew a leadoff walk in the home seventh before a groundout and pair of singles down the line closed the deficit to 10-8.
After an interference called erased the lead runner, Lexi Piccinich drew a walk but Valerie Lamb (Miami Gardens, Fla./Miramar) got a strikeout to get out of a second straight bases-loaded jam and preserve the win.
Sam Clemens led off the bottom of the first with a double before a sacrifice and Piccinich single staked the hosts to a 1-0 lead.
A Wilkins single led off a fourth inning in which McDaniel would plate six runs, including five with two outs.
A sacrifice pushed Wilkins to second before a Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) double and Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) single tied the game.
After a groundout put runners at second and third before Michael slapped a single up the middle to score Coyle and put runners at the corners.
After Michael stole second, Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) singled to make it 3-1. After a Michaela Persinger (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) walk loaded the bases, Hishon doubled home a pair of runs for a 5-1 lead.
Wilkins followed with an RBI infield single to make it 6-1.
A Katie Wenger triple and Ryan Correa RBI groundout closed the deficit to 6-2 in the home fourth.
Scardina added an RBI single in the fifth to plate Wagner to push the lead back to five.
Two walks and four singles tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Crystal Good capped the rally with a two-out, two-run knock to right.
Hishon led the way with four hits and three RBIs while Wilkins and Wagner added three hits each.
In game two, Persinger dropped a one-out single into right field in the top of the first before taking second on a wild pitch and scoring on a Wilkins single to shallow center.
A two-out Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) double and Coyle RBI single doubled the advantage in the fourth.
Scardina led off the fifth with a single before Persinger followed with a knock up the middle.
With one out, Wilkins blasted a three-run shot over the left-field fence for a 5-0 lead.
Rickrode struck out six and walked just one in the complete game to improve to 3-1 in the circle.
Persinger led the offense in game two with three hits while Wilkins had two hits and drove in four of the five runs.
The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
