Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – McDaniel dropped a pair of games the Sunkissed Classic in non-conference softball action on Thursday.
The Green Terror (5-9) fell 11-9 to Wheaton (Mass.) in the opening game before dropping a 7-0 game to Skidmore.
Michaela Persinger (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) led McDaniel with five hits on the day, adding two runs scored and two RBIs.
The Lyons (2-7) plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning after a hit batter, Lily Ongkiko double and Jade Assad two-run single up the middle.
Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led off the top of the second with a double to the gap before Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) drew a walk.
Alejandra Mata (Miramar, Fla./Cooper City) followed with a tapper back to the circle to load the bases before a Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) sacrifice fly cut the deficit in half.
A fielding error reloaded the bases for Persinger, who drove a single through the left side for a 3-2 lead.
A Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) infield single and throwing error allowed Scardina to score for a 4-2 lead.
After Riley Benedetto infield single and walk put two runners on in the bottom of the second, three straight errors gave Wheaton a 5-4 edge.
Two more singles, two errors and a walk capped a seven-run frame, stretching the lead to 9-4.
Singles from Ongkiko and Assad pushed the advantage to 10-4 in the third before Persinger and Hishon led off the fourth with back-to-back singles.
Tori Wilkins (Lutz, Fla./Land O'Lakes) followed with a double down the line to make it a 10-6 game.
The Lyons tacked on a single run in the home fourth.
In the top of the seventh, Miranda Thompson (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and Wagner led off with a back-to-back singles
A ground ball scored Thompson before Michael put a ball in the gap to put runners at the corners.
Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) drove a pinch-hit single into center to close the gap to 11-9 but a pair of groundouts around a walk got Wheaton out of the jam.
Persinger finished the game with three hits while Hishon added three knocks of her own.
The Thoroughbreds (4-3) plated five runs in the first inning and held McDaniel off the scoreboard in game two.
After a walk and fielding error, the Green Terror got the force out at third to keep it first and second with one out.
An infield single loaded the bases before Adrianna Garcia doubled down the line for a 2-0 lead. A two-out walk and Drew Bugna bases-clearing triple capped the five-run frame.
Hannah Paolluci led off the sixth with a home run to straightaway center field before a Karly Fishkin double off the pitcher Jill Strileckis double to center in the seventh accounted for the final two runs.
Persinger had two hits in game two.
The Green Terror concludes its Florida trip against Utica and Cortland on Friday. The first game begins at 9 a.m.
