Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – York (Pa.) hit three home runs to key a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in non-conference softball action on Sunday.
The Spartans (21-11) won the opener 9-3 before completing the sweep with a 10-4 victory.
Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) led the Green Terror (12-11-1) with two of the team's six hits in game one. It was one of six two-hit games for McDaniel in the twinbill.
Carleigh Ruleman led York with three hits, including a game-one home run.
In game one, Ruleman and Haley Hirn led off the top of the second with back-to-back singles through the left side before a sacrifice moved both into scoring position.
Savannah Galati followed with an RBI single and Quinn Fisher had an RBI groundout to stake York to a 2-0 lead.
A walk and Joanna Marmo two-run home that carried the right-field fence doubled the lead in the third.
The Spartans tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth before an infield single, two-out walk and Ruleman three-run jack to left in the sixth stretched the lead to 9-0.
Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) led off the home sixth with a single up the middle before Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) poked a one-out single through the right side.
A Scardina two-out single up the middle loaded the bases before Kaitlin Yealy (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) drove a bases-clearing double to the gap in right-center to make it a 9-3 game.
Lewis joined Scardina with a two-hit game one.
Ginger Lewis fanned nine batters, going the distance in the circle for York.
In the nightcap, Savannah Zittle was hit by a pitch to lead off the game before two more walks and another hit batter staked the Spartans to a 1-0 lead.
A walk and two-out dropped fly ball doubled the advantage in the second.
A two-run Marmo single and two-run Ruleman home run in fourth pushed the lead to 6-0.
Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) rapped a line-drive RBI double to center in the fourth to make it a 6-1 game before scoring on Maddy Johnson's (Glen Rock, Pa./Dallastown) first-career hit, a single just inside the right-field line.
Two more walks and a hit batter in the fifth coupled with an RBI fielder's choice and sacrifice fly extended the lead back to six in the top of the fifth.
Yealy led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run before a two-out error and Marmo two-run single in the seventh made it a 10-3 game.
Back-to-back doubles by Lewis and Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) set the final margin in the home seventh. The Hishon hit was the junior's 100th career hit.
Lewis, Yealy, Kipe and Johnson had two hits each in game two.
McDaniel returns to action at Eastern Mennonite on Thursday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
