Michael has three hits in sweep to clinch top spot

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HAVERFORD, Pa. – McDaniel escaped game one with a victory before exploding for 10 runs to complete the sweep of Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.

The Green Terror (24-15-1, 14-1-1 CC) took the opener 3-2 before winning game two 10-2 in six innings to capture the No. 1 seed in next weekend's conference tournament. McDaniel will host the four-team, double-elimination tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Green Terror does not yet know its first-round opponent. If Muhlenberg sweeps Gettysburg on Sunday, the Mules will be the fourth seed. Otherwise, the fourth seed goes to Franklin & Marshall. Game times will be officially announced on Monday.

Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) led McDaniel on Saturday with three hits in the twinbill.

Kendall Chambers paced the Fords (7-21, 3-13 CC) with three hits of her own.

Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) led off the opener with a walk before stealing second and scoring on a Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) single through the right side for a 1-0 lead.

After Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) walked, a fly out and wild pitch made it 2-0 with Kipe on third base.

Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) singled home Kipe with two outs for a 3-0 lead.

An error, wild pitch and Chambers RBI single cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the inning.

Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) and Chambers combined to allow just four more base runners until Chambers led off the bottom of the seventh with a single.

A wild pitch and Alex Craig single put runners at the corners before a throwing error made it 3-2 and moved Craig to third base.

With two outs, an illegal pitch was called to initially score Craig with the tying run but after a protest from the McDaniel dugout and a consultation with the rulebook, the call was overturned and Craig was returned to third base.

Johnson induced a groundball for the final out and her 10th win of the season in the circle. She fanned six in the complete-game victory.

In game two, Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) led off the second with a single before taking second on a wild pitch and scoring on a Coyle single for a 1-0 lead.

Three errors to start the third inning opened the door for three unearned runs. Weisser and Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) each had RBI singles in the frame to make it a 4-0 game.

The Green Terror tacked on five more runs in the fourth to stretch the lead to 9-0.

Miller led off the inning with a double before scoring on a Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) home run to center field.

Weisser, Coyle, Michael put together three straight singles to make it a 7-0 game before a Deichman RBI groundout and Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) double stretched the lead to nine.

A two-out walk and back-to-back doubles by Rachel Wolfson and Ashley Sisto cut the deficit to 9-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

A Michael infield single, sacrifice, Maring single and error pushed the lead to 10-2 in the sixth.

Cassie Rickrode (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth to close out the win for Weisser, who improved to 9-2 on the year.

Miller and Weisser had three hits each in game two while Hishon, Coyle and Michael all had two knocks.
