Weisser has three hits

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Hood scored two runs in the top of the eighth to complete a sweep of McDaniel in non-conference softball action on Thursday.

The Blazers (17-16) took the opener 5-2 before finishing the sweep with a 2-1 game-two win.

Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) led the Green Terror (22-15-1) with three hits on the afternoon.

Kristy Erfurdt finished with two hits for Hood and drove in four of the team's seven runs on the day.

Trailing 2-1, Kristen Scott drove a single through the left side with one out in the top of the fifth before Erfurdt followed with a two-run shot to center field to turn the one-run deficit into a one-run lead.

A two-out walk to Jess Sedgwick and a Kayli Paugh two-run home run to right field in the top of the seventh set the final margin.

McDaniel jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) drove a ball back up the middle before stealing second and taking third on a passed ball. An Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) sacrifice fly scored the first run of the game.

A Jasmine Webster double, sacrifice and ground ball tied the game in the third.

With two outs in the fourth, Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) drove the first shot she saw deep to straightaway center field for a 2-1 edge.

Weisser had two hits of the Green Terror's four hits in game one.

In game two, Cassie Rickrode (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) worked in and out of trouble to match zeros with the Hood combination of Sophia Leaman and Paugh through seven innings.

With Scott placed on second to start the eighth, Erfurdt hooked a ball just inside the foul line in left field for a double and 1-0 lead.

Back-to-back singles from Sedgwick and Paugh gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.

With Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Md./East Lake) on second to start the bottom of the inning, she moved to third on a groundout before scoring on a Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) single up the middle.

Miller then stole second before Paugh got her fourth strikeout and hard-hit line drive right at her second baseman to escape with the win.

McDaniel returns to action at Haverford on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
