Kipe hits walkoff bomb to ignite Senior Day sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel mustered just eight hits on the day but it was enough for a doubleheader sweep of Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Sunday.

The Green Terror (21-12-1, 12-1-1) took the opener 3-1 in the eighth innings before completing the sweep with a 3-0 victory. With the two wins, McDaniel can assure itself the top seed in the conference tournament with two wins at Haverford next Saturday. The Green Terror has clinched at least the need to replay the Gettysburg tie for hosting rights, pending the outcomes of next weekend's finales.

Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led McDaniel with two hits on the day, including a walkoff home run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning of game one. Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) and Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) did their work in the circle, combining for 11 strikeouts and allowing just six hits. Weisser fanned six in 7-plus innings of game one before Johnson finished off the eighth with one strikeout to pick up the win. Johnson went the distance with four Ks in game two.

Alicia Lane had one hit for the Red Devils (9-23, 5-9 CC), driving in her team's lone run of the afternoon.

Weisser and Madison Milaszewski matched zeros through the first six innings before a one-out Killian Kueny single in the top of the seventh. Lane followed with a line-drive double to the gap to score pinch-runner Alissa Lema for a 1-0 lead.

Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) drove a single through the left side to lead off the seventh before giving way to pinch-runner Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough), who moved to second on a Weisser sacrifice bunt.

Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) followed with a double to the gap – her second of the game – to tie the game.

After working around a throwing error in the top of the inning, Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) reached on a two-out throwing error in the bottom of the frame.

Kipe sent the next pitch to straightaway center field for a no-doubt home run and the victory.

In game two, Emily Rosenberg and Johnson matched zeros through four innings before Weisser drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the fifth and stole second.

A two-out Scardina flair just behind the first-base bag plated Weisser for a 1-0 lead.

Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) walked to lead off the sixth before pinch-runner Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) stole second and third.

After a failed suicide squeeze, Kipe drove a 3-2 pitch to left, scoring Aviles for a 2-0 lead.

Kipe then stole second and scored on a Weisser single with two outs.

McDaniel returns to action at Stevenson on Wednesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
