Box Score 2 HARRISONBURG, Va. – McDaniel scored all of its runs in two innings to sweep Eastern Mennonite in non-conference softball action on Thursday.
The Green Terror (14-11-1) notched a 2-1 win in game one before completing the sweep with an 8-2 victory in the nightcap.
Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) led McDaniel with three hits and two RBIs in game two.
Lauren Seale led the Royals (21-11) with four hits on the day. In the circle, she fanned 20 batters in 12 1/3 innings of work.
Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) drew a walk to lead off game one before Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) blasted a two-run home run to left-center, staking the visitors to a 2-0 lead.
Seale then settled in and retired 21 of the next 22 batters she faced, including 11 by strikeout. A Lewis single up the middle in the sixth was the only other Green Terror runner to reach base.
Eastern Mennonite got one run back in the bottom of the second. Michaela Nichols led off the frame with a bunt single before moving to second on a sacrifice. After a second infield single in the inning put runners at the corners, a Katherine Komara sent a ball to the gap but a diving grab by Maddy Johnson (Glen Rock, Pa./Dallastown) turned the would-be single into a sacrifice fly.
Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) worked in and out of trouble the rest of the day, including allowing the winning run to reach in the bottom of the seventh but got her second double play ball of the game to finish the win, scattering 10 hits and walking just one.
Trailing 2-0 in game two after failing to score with the bases loaded and one out in the first inning, McDaniel sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the second for an eight-run frame.
Kaitlin Yealy (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) drew a walk to lead off the inning before Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) doubled to the gap to put runners at second and third.
Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) was hit by a one-out pitch to load the bases for Lewis, who walked to force in Yealy.
A two-run Coyle single turned the one-run deficit into a one-run lead.
A walk to Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) reloaded the bases and Jaime Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) reached on an infield single, scoring Lewis for a 4-2 lead.
After an out at the plate for the second out, Yealy singled through the left side for a 5-2 lead and chased the Royal starter in favor of Seale.
Michael greeted Seale with a triple down the line, clearing the bases with her first collegiate three-bagger and an 8-2 lead.
Beck Hoskins, Mariann Smith and Seale led off the bottom of the first with three straight singles for a 1-0 lead before a Savannah Jones one-out knock down the line staked the hosts to a 2-0 lead.
Weisser did not allow another runner past first base the rest of the day to pick up her sixth win of the year in the circle.
Michael finished game two with a pair of hits.
McDaniel returns to action at Muhlenberg on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
