Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel hit four home runs to key a doubleheader sweep of Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (10-8, 4-0 CC) took the opener 5-3 before extending its winning streak to six straight games with a 7-4 victory in game two.
Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led McDaniel with a home run in each game, driving in four runs and walking twice.
Rachel Hyman led the Bears (7-13, 0-4 CC) with two hits in game one.
Locked up in a pitchers' duel, Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) led off the bottom of the fourth with a single to shallow left field – the Green Terror's first hit of the game. She stole second and was able to move to third on an overthrow before Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) doubled to gap to plate the game's first run.
Hishon followed with a blast to straightaway center field on the first pitch she saw, stretching the lead to 3-0.
With one out, Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) poked her first collegiate home run, clearing the fence just to the right-field side of straightway center.
A Hyman leadoff double in the fifth, wild pitch and two-out error made it a 4-1 game.
Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) doubled to the fence in left field with one out in the sixth before scoring on a Roxana Aviles (Manassa, Va./Osbourn) double to the gap to stretch the lead back to four.
Hyman reached with a one-out single in the top of the seventh before a walk and Gabrielle Manto single loaded the bases.
An RBI groundout and wild pitch closed the deficit to 5-3 before a walk brought the go-ahead run to the plate.
Cassie Rickrode (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) got her second strikeout in relief, however, to notch her third save of the season and give Valerie Lamb (Miami Gardens, Fla./Miramar) her first win. Lamb went five innings, striking out three and allowing just one unearned run.
In game two, Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) drew a leadoff walk before Weisser cranked a two-run home run to stake the hosts to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
Lewis led off the sixth inning with a walk – her second of the game and the 67th of her career – to establish a new program record for career bases on balls and ignite a five-run frame.
Hishon pulled a ball down the line for her second home run of the day, stretching the lead to 4-0.
Another Coyle walk and singles by Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) and Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) pushed the led to 5-0.
Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) laced a double to the gap to score Kipe with the sophomore's first collegiate hit and RBI.
A Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) RBI groundout made it a 7-0 game with the game-ending run standing on third base but the Bears got a lineout to prevent being run-ruled.
Isabella Dewes led off the seventh with a double before talking third on a fly out to right. A Marissa Beebe pinch-hit rocket off the third baseman's glove scored Dewes.
Callie Crouse followed with a single to right before a wild pitch, walk, passed ball and sacrifice fly made it a 7-3 game.
A single up the middle and fielding error made it 7-4 before a walk brought the tying run to the plate.
Johnson got a popup on the infield to pick up her second straight complete-game win.
McDaniel returns to action at Gettysburg on Tuesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
