Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel exploded for 31 hits to open the Centennial Conference (CC) softball schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
The Green Terror (8-8, 2-0 CC) took the opener 13-5 with a sixth-inning run-rule victory before getting a 7-0 shutout victory in the nightcap.
Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) was one of five players with four or more hits on the afternoon, recording five hits with three doubles.
Lexi Piccinich led the Diplomats (2-10, 0-2 CC) with two home runs in game one.
After a Piccinich two-out home run in the top of the first, Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) roped the first pitch she saw to left field for a one-out double to ignite a six-run frame.
After Miller moved to third on a passed ball, Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) dropped a single to center to tie the game.
A Hishon single through the left side put runners at the corners before Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) poked a two-out single through the right side for a 2-1 lead.
Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) laced a double to right, scoring Hishon before Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) singled home Wagner for a 4-1 lead.
With runners at the corners, Weisser stole second for the first of eight Green Terror swipes on the day. Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) followed with a double to the gap for a 6-1 lead.
Kelly Van O'Linda led off the top of the third with a walk before another two-out Piccinich home run cut the deficit to 6-3.
Doubles by Wenger and Van O'Linda and a Christine Miles single trimmed the margin to 6-5 in the fourth.
Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll), however, led off the bottom of the frame with a double before Lewis reached on an infield single and took second on a throw that prevented Maring from scoring.
Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) poked a two-out single back up the middle to score both runners for an 8-5 lead.
Weisser cranked a one-out home run to right field in the fifth to stretch the lead to four.
Miller led off the sixth with a single and stole second. A Hishon one-out single scored Miller.
After Hishon stole second, Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) was hit by a pitch and Kipe doubled to center.
Weisser laced a ball off the fence in left field to score both runners and end the game with a double.
Weisser and Hishon had three hits each in game one. Maring, Miller, Lewis and Kipe all had two knocks as part of the 17-hit attack in which each starter recorded at least one. Weisser also picked up the win in the circle, striking out three in four innings. Cassie Rickrode (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) registered her second save in as many outings with three strikeouts in two innings of relief.
In the nightcap, Maring led off with a single, stole second and score on a Lewis one-out single to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead.
A Hishon double and Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) single doubled the lead in the third.
Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) reached on an error to lead off the fourth before giving way to pinch-runner Alejandra Mata (Miramar, Fla./Cooper City), who stole second and moved to third on a groundout.
Miller blasted a one-out shot to deep right-center for her first home run of the second, stretching the lead to 4-0.
A Coyle leadoff double and Weisser two-out single made it a 5-0 game in the fifth.
Maring singled to lead off the sixth before swiping her third bag of the day and scoring on a Lewis single to left.
Hishon followed with a double but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple, making it a 7-0 game.
Coyle led the offense in game two with a 4-for-4 day while Maring, Lewis and Hishon all had two hits. Johnson went the distance in the circle, striking out six for the shutout.
McDaniel returns to action at Swarthmore on Tuesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
