Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – McDaniel broke out for 19 hits to key a sweep in its final day at the Rebel Spring Games in non-conference softball action on Friday.
The Green Terror (6-8) downed Skidmore 11-6 in the day's first game before needing eight innings to defeat St. Norbert, 5-4.
Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led McDaniel as one of two players with four hits, including going 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the opener.
The Thoroughbreds (3-6) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a to-out Lauren Fortunato single and Lizette Roman-Johnston double.
Back-to-back singles from Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) and Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) coupled with a sacrifice put runners at second and third in the top of the fourth.
Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) followed with a walk to load the bases before a Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) sacrifice fly tied the game.
Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) singled to center to plate Hishon for a 2-1 advantage.
A two-run Mary Farrington triple keyed a three-run bottom of the fourth to put Skidmore back on top, 4-2.
Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) started a six-run fifth inning with a single up the middle. A stolen base and fielding error put runners at the corners before Hishon drove in Miller to make it 4-3.
A Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./New Freedom) single up the middle loaded the bases before Wagner and Weisser drew back-to-back bases loaded walks to turn the one-run deficit into a one-run lead.
Kipe doubled to the gap to stretch the lead to 7-2 before a swinging bunt by Alejandra Mata (Miramar, Fla./Cooper City) and Miller sacrifice fly made it 8-2.
The Green Terror added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to make it an 11-5 game before three straight two-out singles set the final margin.
Lewis, Hishon and Deichman each had two hits in the first game. Weisser pitched four innings for the win while Cassie Rickrode (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) earned her first save with three innings of relief, fanning four.
Trailing 4-2 going to the bottom of the eighth against the Green Knights (1-7), Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) was placed on second base. Miller led off the frame with a double to the gap to trade places and draw McDaniel within one.
After a Lewis sacrifice moved Miller to third, Hishon put a ball up the third-base line and Miller beat the throw home to tie the game.
Wagner followed with a single up the middle to put runners at the corners and Deichman dropped a perfect bunt on the second pitch she saw to reach safely and score Hishon with the game-winning run.
The Green Terror struck first with a Kipe single and Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) double to the gap with two outs in the second.
Maria Reiter walked and Tia Danforth was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth before back-to-back one-out singles by Leigh Gralla and Lexy Campshure gave St. Norbert a 2-1 lead.
An Aviles single down the third-base line, Maring sacrifice and two-out error tied the game in the bottom of the fifth.
An error in the top of the eighth immediate scored Reiter with the go-ahead run before the Green Knights stretched the lead to two with a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly.
Aviles and Deichman each had two hits in game two. Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder) pitched four and two-third innings of relief, striking out three to pick up her first win of the season in the circle.
The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference and home opener against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
