Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – College of New Jersey used a five-run second inning to help complete a sweep of McDaniel at the Rebel Spring Games in non-conference softball action on Thursday.
The Lions (6-4) took the opener 5-2 before completing the sweep with a 5-1 victory in game two.
Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) led the Green Terror (4-8) with a 2-for-3 day at the plate in game one. Haley Michael (Oldsmar, Fla./East Lake) had two hits in the nightcap.
Jess Santelli led TCNJ with four hits, including a 3-for-3 game one.
Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) led off the opener with a single up the middle. A fielding error allowed Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) to reach after Miller stole second.
Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) drew a walk to load the bases before a one-out Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) RBI groundout gave McDaniel a 1-0 lead.
Santelli led off the bottom of the second with a single through the right side before Helena Coppola dropped a single into center. After a sacrifice put the runners at second and third, Arielle Couso singled home Santelli to tie the game.
A fielding error gave the Lions a 2-1 lead.
Miller drew a walk to lead off the top of the third before an error on the Lewis sacrifice attempt put runners at the corners. A fielder's choice scored Miller to tie the game at 2-all.
A hit batter and error coupled with a two-out Gaby Bennett singled back up the middle gave College of New Jersey a 4-2 advantage.
A walk, sacrifice, single and Coppola RBI ground out stretched the lead to 5-2 in the fifth.
McDaniel loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh but Sam Platt got a fly ball to end the game and record the win, fanning six along the way.
In game two, Santelli led off with a single to left before a sacrifice moved her to second base.
Bennett chopped a ball through the left side before Couso was able to drop a ball into shallow right field to score two runs.
A stolen base and Annalise Suitovsky infield single scored Couso for a 3-0 lead.
Singles by Madison Levine and Jess McGuire around a throwing error stretched the lead to 5-0.
Miranda Thompson (Columbia, Md./Atholton) delivered a pinch-hit single up the middle to lead off the sixth before Michael drove a ball to the gap in right-center but was thrown out on a close play trying to stretch it to a triple, driving in the lone run of the game.
The Green Terror concludes its 10-game trip to Florida against Skidmore and St. Norbert on Friday. first game begins at 9 a.m.
