Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. – McDaniel rallied late in game one and ultimately earned a split with Meredith in non-conference softball action on Sunday.
The Green Terror (3-1) grabbed a 7-5 victory in game one before the Avenging Angels (3-7) prevailed in game two, 9-5.
Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) led McDaniel with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
Erica Occena went 4-for-4 to lead Meredith in game two.
Trailing 5-3 entering the sixth inning of game one, Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) singled up the middle with one out in the frame. With two outs, Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) also poked a single up the middle to put runners at the corners.
Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) followed with a double to center to clear the bases and tie the game at 5-all.
Lewis dropped a single into right field to score Miller for a 6-5 advantage.
A Tayler Hishon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) double and Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) single stretched the lead to 7-5 in the top of the seventh.
A single and walk put two runners on with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) got a ground ball and foul fly to escape with her second win of the season. The senior threw four innings of relief, allowing just an unearned run.
Haley Ervin led off the bottom of the first with a bunt single before stealing second. After two-out walks to Eran Artigues and Rachel Peel, Maria Annunziat laced a double to left for a 2-0 Meredith lead.
Maring drew a one-out walk in the top of the third before a fielding error allowed Miller to reach and Maring to score.
Back-to-back two-out walks to Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) and Weisser loaded the bases for Hishon, who made it three straight walks to tie the game.
A throwing error on a pickoff attempt plated Kipe from third for a 3-2 advantage.
Three walks, two singles and an error led to a pair of Avenging Angel runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Katie Kepley singled before an error put runners at second and third. A Kelsey Mabe RBI groundout scored Kepley for a 5-3 lead.
In game two, Miller was hit by a pitch to lead off the game before back-to-back singles from Lewis and Megan Coyle (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) loaded the bases.
Wagner drew a bases-loaded walk before a one-out error allowed Lewis to also score for a 2-0 lea.d
Occena and Kelsey Mabe each singled to lead off the bottom of the frame before an Artigues walk loaded the bases.
Annunziat cleared the bases with a base hit before a walk put runners at the corners. Meredith executed the ensuing squeeze play for a 4-2 lead.
The Avenging Angels stretched the lead to 5-2 in the second before Kipe drew a one-out walk to lead off the visitor fourth.
Maring followed with a walk before a fielder's choice put Miller at first and two on with two outs.
A Lewis walk loaded the bases before a wild pitch plated Maring from third.
Three straight walks to Coyle, Wagner and Hishon tied the game at 5-all.
Meredith strung together four consecutive two-out singles in the bottom of the frame to go back in front before an error stretched the lead to 8-5.
An Occena triple scored Zievas for the game's final run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Green Terror returns to action on its 10-game trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. McDaniel opens the trip on Sunday, Mar. 12 against Marietta and Ramapo. The first game begins at 9 a.m.
