Box Score 2 WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel hit four home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Stevenson in non-conference softball action on Wednesday.
Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) recorded her first collegiate home run to cap the day of long balls for the Green Terror (22-15), who won the opener 11-7 before taking the nightcap 11-1 in six innings. Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led the power surge with two of her three hits clearing the fence, including a grand slam in the opener. Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) rounded out the trio of sophomores to go yard.
Kristen Mueller led the Mustangs (13-23) with four hits.
In game one, Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) led off the bottom of the second inning with a single up the middle before Deichman replaced her at first on a fielder's choice.
A Hishon single through the right side but two runners on for Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier), who lined a single up the middle and into the gap. A miscue in the outfield allowed both runners to score and Fletcher to reach third for a 2-0 lead.
A Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) singled up the middle to score Fletcher for a 3-0 advantage.
A Molly Hoyt two-out single, Emily Soller double over the third-base bag and a Naomi Fields two-run single up the middle cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the third.
Lindsey Miller (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) singled to lead off the third before scoring on a Weisser double to stretch the lead back to two.
Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) drew a walk to lead off the fifth before Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) was hit by a pitch and Weisser walk to load the bases.
A fielder's choice allowed Deichman to reach but cut the down the run at the plate before Hishon lauched a 2-2 pitch over the center field fence for a grand slam and 8-2 lead.
Five singles in the top of the six closed the deficit to 8-7 before Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) led off the bottom of the inning with a triple.
Three straight walks loaded the bases once again and pushed the lead to 9-7.
A Diechman RBI groundout and Fletcher bases-loaded walk set the final margin.
Weisser and Hishon had a pair of hits each in the opener. Weisser also pitched 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win in the circle.
Mueller and Tiffany Kahl led off the nightcap with infield hits to put runners at the corners before an Emily Soller RBI groundout staked Stevenson to a 1-0 lead.
Miller led off the bottom of the inning before Lewis was able to reach on a dropped throw on the sacrifice attempt to put runners at the corners.
Kipe beat out a suicide squeeze and evened the game at 1-all.
Alicia Wagner (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) drew a walk to load the bases before Hishon drew a one-out walk to force in Kipe for a 2-1 edge.
A Fletcher RBI groundout plated Fiona Johnson (Derwood, Md./Magruder), who was running for Wagner, to make it a 3-1 game.
In the fourth inning, Miller led off with a double before Lewis reached on an infield single.
A fielder's choice put runners at the corners before Wagner drove in Miller for a 4-1 lead.
Deichman followed with a three-run bomb to left field to stretch the lead to 7-1.
Hishon made it back-to-back shots, clearing the right-center fence for an 8-1 edge.
Hishon drew a wlk to lead off the sixth before Fletcher singled through the right side. After a wild pitch put both runners in scoring position, Scardina launched the seventh pitch she saw to straightaway center field to end the game.
Miller finished game two with three hits while Kipe and Deichman had two each. Johnson went four innings in the circle to pick up the win.
McDaniel concludes the regular season at Washington (Md.) on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
