Box Score 2 YORK, Pa. – McDaniel rapped out 12 hits in game one to key a doubleheader split at York (Pa.) in non-conference softball action on Monday.
The Green Terror (17-11) took game one 6-0 before the Spartans (25-15) responded with a 5-1 victory in the nightcap.
Alex Herschman (Laurel, Md./Atholton) led McDaniel in game one, allowing just four hits in the Green Terror's first shutout since returning from Florida. Herschman struck out four and walked one for her third win of the year.
Jenny Coyle responded for the Spartans in game two, tossing a three-hitter and fanning four.
With one out in the top of the first inning in game one, Morgan Scardina (Pasadena, Md./Seton Keough) laced a single to the gap before Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) was hit by a pitch.
Jamie Weisser (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) followed with a single to deep center to load the bases.
Carly Deichman (Easton, Pa./Freedom) drew a walk to force in Scardina before Taylor Fletcher (Linden, Va./Fauquier) was hit by a pitch to force in Kipe for a 2-0 lead.
A Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) RBI groundout made it 3-0 before back-to-back errors stretched the lead to 5-0.
Singles by Justice, Roxana Aviles (Manassa, Va./Osbourn) and Ally Galati (Milford, Pa./Cornwall Central) loaded the bases with no one out in the fifth before a Payton Lewis (Valrico, Fla./Durant) sacrifice fly scored Justice for the final margin.
Weisser led the offense in the opener with three hits while Deichman and Galati had two each.
In the nightcap, Ashley Werner tripled with one out before a throw to attempt get her at third sailed into the dugout, awarding her home for a 1-0 lead.
A Haley Hirn two-out home run to left field doubled the advantage two batters later.
Savannah Zittle singled to lead off the third before Hirn and Carleigh Ruleman drew back-to-back two-out walks to load the bases. A Joanna Marmo single just inside the third-base bag stretched the lead to 4-0.
Tayler Hishon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) led off the fifth inning with a triple before a Deichman pinch-hit single to left got McDaniel on the board.
Singles by Katie Maloney and Ruleman pushed the lead back to four in the bottom of the frame.
Hishon had two of the Green Terror's three hits in game two.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
